Recent news reveals that the Belarusian Ministry of Defense is considering the acquisition of Chinese and Russian drones to boost its military capabilities. According to reports, the total value of these drone purchases is estimated to be around $3.3 million. This information was obtained from the state procurement website and confirmed by a reliable source, the Telegram channel “OtVinta,” which specializes in Belarusian aviation news.
Types of Drones Involved in the Purchase
- FPV drones: 187 units
- FPV drones: 190 units
- FPV drone sets: 20 sets
- Tactical unmanned aerial complexes (UACs): 81 units
- Tactical UACs: 83 units
The majority of the drones in question are of Chinese production, particularly the Caddx X10 model. This drone is available in two versions: AI and IR. The AI version uses artificial intelligence to enhance its surveillance capabilities, while the IR version relies on infrared technology for detection. Additionally, the drones will be accompanied by a set of FPV (First Person View) drones, which will provide real-time video feed to operators.
Drones with Advanced Features
Among the drones acquired by Belarus, some models feature advanced technologies that make them more formidable in combat scenarios. For example, the DJI Mavic3 Thermal multicopter, which is part of the tactical UACs purchased, can perform aerial reconnaissance. Moreover, the Autel EVO MAX 4T, another tactical UAC, comes equipped with a laser rangefinder and thermal imaging camera, enabling it to detect heat sources, moving people, or vehicles. Its AI recognition technology allows it to identify and capture targets automatically.
Russian and Belarusian UAVs in the Mix
Interestingly, Belarus has been actively purchasing Russian UAVs “Supercam” of various modifications in recent years. These drones have demonstrated impressive performance and versatility in different operational contexts. Moreover, Belarus has also acquired its own domestic UAVs, the “Berkut-3,” which are designed to meet the country’s specific military needs.
Futuristic Technology Meets Practical Application
As Belarus continues to acquire advanced drones, it highlights the growing importance of unmanned aerial vehicles in military operations. The acquisition of drones with AI capabilities, thermal imaging, and laser rangefinder enables Belarus to enhance its surveillance capabilities, increase its detection range, and improve its overall tactical capabilities. It is also worth noting that Belarus’s drone purchases reflect a broader trend in the global military landscape, where countries are increasingly investing in UAVs to expand their military capabilities.
Achieving a Balance Between Cost and Effectiveness
The Belarusian Ministry of Defense’s decision to purchase drones worth approximately $3.3 million highlights the delicate balance between cost and effectiveness. The acquisition of high-performance drones can be expensive, but the potential benefits in terms of enhanced surveillance capabilities and increased tactical effectiveness are undeniable.
