Makeen Initiative, launched by Oman’s Ministry of National Education in 2016, focuses on developing digital literacy and awareness among Omani youth. The Makeen Initiative aims to empower Omani youth to harness the potential of technology, including AI, to drive economic growth and innovation. The competition, which has been running for two years, has seen participation from over 200 Omani students from various schools and universities. This year, the competition saw a 25% increase in participation compared to the previous year. The event was held at the Oman Air Academy, with the participation of Omani and foreign judges, who assessed the projects based on innovation, feasibility, and technical expertise. The competition was divided into three categories: beginner, intermediate, and advanced, with the winner of each category receiving a cash prize of OMR 1,000.

The second phase, from October to December 2024, shifted to autonomous drone operations.

The Drone Racing Competition

The competition was designed to test participants’ skills in both manual and autonomous drone operations.

The first round, the 2025 World Cup Qualifier, was held in the United Arab Emirates. The second round, the 2025 Asian Cup, was held in China. The third round, the 2025 African Cup of Nations, was held in Cameroon. The fourth round, the 2025 European Cup, was held in Germany.
